Moses and Joshua – types of Jesus
Prayer:
Father, help us to follow the example of Jesus
We've covered some of this already in the past few weeks, so you can treat this as a bit of revision.
- We've looked at Moses being the leader of the people
- We've looked at how he was to bring the people out of a life of bondage and into the promised land
- We've looked at how this was a major step, and part of the promises to Abraham.
- We've looked at how he give the laws, in order that people could please God
We've not really covered much on Joshua, but again there are quite a few similarities.
- Probably the most obvious is that Joshua and Jesus are actually the same name in Hebrew.
- Just as Joshua was to take over where Moses left off, so was Jesus.
- Joshua was the one to enter the promised land.
- He went first to prepare the way, and came back to lead the people in to the land (their rest)
- He was to destroy those who worshipped idols and refused to come to God
- but he spared Gentiles (non-Jews) who believed, like Rahab
There's quite a few more, so I'll leave it to you to come up with an extended list.
